This post is the first in a series of posts to help you make your WordPress powered blog more user friendly. Today the elusive read more button will be the subject of discussion. The read more button is not labeled and unless someone tells you where it is, you’ll probably never find it. I was already changing and editing themes before I found out about the read more feature in WordPress. So in other words do not feel bad that you have not discovered this useful little button yet. Below you will find images and text to guide you through the process of using the WordPress read more button.
To begin go to your website and access your login screen, this is usually your website URL plus /wp-admin.
Step 1: Login to your Blog

Step 2: Click Posts and select the post you want to add Read More too

Step 3: Click on the Visual tab in the upper right corner of the text editing box.

Step 4: Place your cursor where you want your text to stop.

Step 5: Click the button shown here (It adds the read more piece).

Step 6: Click the blue Publish or Update button

Step 7: Check your home page and make sure you placed it in the correct position
Feel free to leave your ideas for future topics in the comments below.

Hi – I have done all the above on one of the posts, however, when I click on the side bar for a category and then on a post – the read more on the actual post doesn’t work. I can click on the title of the post and it takes me to the whole post. The read more does nothing. Can you help me?
Thanks
Nanette
